Diels, Hermann / Die Fragmente Der Vorsokratike V.2
Details
In 1903, Hermann Diels published the first edition of the collected fragments, which has since figured among the most important works of Classical philology. The work unites more than 400 major and minor authors who all contributed to the flowering of Greek intellectual life. The study of these original documents in itself makes possible an extensive investigation of the development of Greek thought. Therefore the present work offers a near-complete collection of the fragments, whose translations help to develop the student’s understanding of the text. In planning his work, Hermann Diel extended the understanding of philosophy in the ancient sense to include the natural sciences, especially mathematics.
